more freezepop awesomeness...

this song makes me wanna go put on sexy clothes, drink lots, be in love and play in my city all night long. fuck yes!

11.30.2008

yep

You know you love it!

Apocalyptica

Apocalyptica is a wonderfully innovative band that plays heavy metal cello. Not just one heavy metal cello, but 4 heavy metal cellos! With long hair and eyeliner these are not the typical classical musicians, although they are classically trained. As all talented and gifted artists do, they push the limits of their medium and found unexplored territory. Here's 'Path':

They work with a variety of guest vocalists and I particularly like this song because it's not too heavy metal scary, but almost like a lullaby. It's called 'Faraway' featuring Linda Sundblad:

You can find a bunch of Metallica covers on YouTube and I think what's fun about that is that the audience sings the lyrics while the band shreds. Notice the crowd participarion on 'Seek and Destroy':

Incidentally, I might add that the guy with short hair and funky beard is totally do-able. I mean TOTALLY.

RIse Against

There's a lot of songs currently about the war, if this one doesn't strike the heart stings in you..nothing will. It gave me chills when I first heard it, cry a few times after, I'd like to sing along but I never can without getting choked up! Rise Against is also coming near Iowa soon...dunno if I'll see them, but I'd like to! My brother should be home soon, date un-certain. He's well, calls home just to hear us talk, normal everyday talk as if he was here. He doesn't really want to talk about anything over there anymore, not even really make jokes. He misses home, misses sleeping well without weird/crazy noises at night, and even during the day. I couldn't imagine that being a part of my everyday world. It's day over here, when night over there, so he usually calls at night his time, which causes him to sleep even less, but that's what keeps him going I think. I'm still trying to remember why it is the war is going on, or anything at all....and sadly I have nothing! It sucks when I think about how awesome shit is going here with job...etc...then I think...my brother is over somewhere in camo's carrying a gun at all times, missing the shit out of his home! All I can really do is send him awesome thoughts, and continue on. It's the best we all can do. I also take time often to think of the families that will never see their loved one again...and the constant worry they face! POWER TO BE PEACEFUL!!!

10.28.2008

Saturday morning awesomeness...kids these days just don't know!! :(

So the other day I was too happy to flip on the tv and notice that they were playing and episode of Saved By the Bell on regular local channels! It was awesome! Yes its cheesy, but the catchy theme song, the high school drama, the hair, colors and jeans...also Screech! Mr. Porn star these days! hehe I watched it every Saturday morning after the line up..which consisted of, Gummy Bears (early like 6am) Dad would wake us up to watch it and let us pig out on cereal, then the Smurfs, then Winnie the Pooh, Ghostbusterss..trying to think what else I watched...well at 10am Saved by the bell was on! HAHAHAHA! I RULE!

10.26.2008

Falling Slowly

This song pretty much makes me cry every time I listen to it. It's a love song, from the best love story ever! The movie Once, seriously if you have not seen it, you have to. But be ready to cry! It's that touching! So beautifully written, the words are so coming from deep within. Yay for music, and romance! :)

Autodrone

I am obsessed with woman who can rock the beat. i love her voice, another new york native band, mmm i think i should move there. they have been together since 2002, and seem to play a really good show, enjoy!

Bell Hollow

I was pondering my existence in the world of music. brought on by a feeling of discontent. the sound these guys give out remind me of depeche mode, whom i madly love. it gives me a feeling of being young, confused and adventurous. king of how i felt when i first moved here. anyways, thought you girls would totally dig them.

10.13.2008

The Randies

This band kicks ass, from California (of course) they remind me of the Eyeliners some, and a lot of Original Sinners (vocals). Last time they were here they played at the Mews, Funks G opened the show! yay! Such an awesome show and performance, they sit water on each other, and totally ROCKED!! I have a million stickers that I'm not sure what to do with...so I randomly put them up places HAHA! They were on this years Warped Tour as well. They are coming back in November...can't wait!!! :)

Joshua Radin

I wrote a blog about him and how much I dig his music back in November of 2006. Here it is:
So in other news...i have a new fondness for Joshua Radin. I heard some of his music on Garden State awhile ago and loved it, but just recently started delving into the world of his music and I find it to be comforting...no other word for it. It makes me feel like I'm snuggled in my favorite cardigan. You know, the one you never wash until you absolutely have to and even then it's out of your sight just long enough to be cleaned....especially the song 'these photographs' hmmmm.....just something about it....
I still feel the EXACT same about him, only I've had more time to fall even more in love with his beautiful acoustical folk tunes....his music is like the moments right before a summer rain...or that moment between being asleep and awake....

Juice Newton-Angel of the morning

This is one of my favorite songs EVER!! It has been re-done so many times, even when Juice did it, it was a cover...But of all the ones I've heard she does the most beautiful version of it..the video is sorta lame tho. My Dad used to play the record, and 8 track all the time when I was younger, I could hear it sometimes through the heat vent in my room too, when he was hangin out in the basement. Then I remember he helped me to learn the words when I was super young, as I asked him to write them down for me...oh the things parents will do for kids... Also, I remember the chick from the Pretenders was on an episode of Friends once..that's right, I said FRIENDS, and she did this song in the coffee shop, and Phoebe was trying to compete with her...I may be the only one that remembers that, cuz, I thought that show was funny, so I watched it, and remembered that episode cuz of the song!! Anyways...here you go Juice Newton with Angel of the Morning...HEy, I could be a radio D.J...that was an awesome lead, well maybe not...to much extra shit...ok bye!

9.23.2008

Monster metal

So I've recently gotten into some death metal, and this is the only one I actually truely like!! Enjoy!

That's my Love!

Every time I hear this song in a movie, or on the radio it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling...like that feeling you get when you're wearing your favorite cuddly sweater, when the smell of a home cooked meal takes over your house, or fresh baked chocolate chip cookies...or just that feeling of being home...i love it...

This one I should have put on the movie blog...but i couldn't help it...it's the sweetest thing!

Bombing shoes....together again...hehe

Bet you thought I was going to talk about some weird little punk band from the 70's or something huh??......
Tsunami Bomb broke up a little while ago, and are re-uniting for one time only in January in California for a benefit performance for one of their ex-band memebers is sick! The all have different bands now, which do kick ass as well..but Tsunami bomb rules all! Check out the Action Design! ALSO...I heard that slick shoes are also getting back together, and touring but not extensively. They are also going to record another album...yay slick shoes!! If you don't know them then you don't know. I posted a video of theirs before on here, I love them and they have always rocked my head, in that little spazzy positive way, which I love! I may go see them on this tour, not sure who they will be touring with yet, I saw them on Warped Tour one year. Never seen T.B. which is odd. I could have a few times, I was either going to other shows (SK to be exact), or broke!! Anyways, I doubt anyone cares about this besides me, but that is my update in music news for now on that. WORD!!

hey kristen, is their anyway you could move your tape up and to the side, i hardly ever get to listen to it all , because it's at the bottom, and when i want to listen to the blogs i have to scroll all the way down and them back up, it's kind of silly. but i love your tape, just a suggestion i would like to see. thanx. but don't take it off, because i love it.

AND the fact that Tsunami Bomb was playing right here in DSM the same time. So I was torn. But I made the trip. It was worth it, and now neither of them are no longer bands, and I have never seen Tsunami Bomb =(...but thankfully a friend of mine got me a sticker from the TB show, which hangs on my fridge for the time being. krs mini showcase

80-35

Just wanted to post about the music festival that went on in Des Moines this weekend. I myself had a very good time and it seemed like it went over really well. There was a lot of awesome bands to see, the vast majority of them playing on free stages even, and there was a really great turnout. It is so about time that des moines did something like this and i am so glad that it went well, because this means that hopefully it will be something that goes on every year, and maybe this will encourage more acts to come through here. They had quite a few local acts as well as bigger ones, such as the Flaming Lips, which headlined last night and they were amazing. I got to hear and sort of kind of see Frank Black today. I didn't buy a ticket for the main stage today but i got to watch part of it through a crack in the fence :) The Roots headlined tonight and we actually got to catch the end up it as security didn't care too much at that point, and they were pretty sweet, and it all ended with some pretty decent fireworks. Yay for cool stuff happening in the town i live in!

Headlights

I adore this band!! I just listened to the for the first time the other day, I saw they were going to be on the bill at 80/35 so I decided to check them out! They are an indie band from Illinois. I love the sound of them. Check out the song cherry tulips, its on my myspace right now, it also kicks some ass!! They are playing on the free stage, not that any of you are going besides Kelly and I, but it'd be cool if you were...Im excited!!

6.30.2008

Michael Franti & Spearhead

This guy blends some amazing stuff to come up with his sound. He comes off as hip-hop/raggae/mellow/neato =), has an extremely powerful message with pretty much everything he writes and does. He focuses on things happening in the world, or just simple things people can do to make a change within yourself, and sends a positive response. His songs are catchy and moving. They can really refresh you from all the mainstream hip-hop that does have funky beats, but are basically poluting the minds of the people. So if you have it in your head, you can rock to it, and repeat the lyrics, while all at the same time be delivering something positive and great!!! =) If you hadn't checked out Blue King Brown, you may want to do so, because she rocks!! I love this guy!!!!
HEY WORLD!!!!I know Im not alone

STRIKE ANYWHERE

This band is one of the many that pretty much rock my world. Ever since I heard an acoustic version of a song of theirs a few years ago, I have been amazed by this guys voice, moved by the lyrics, inspired by their intentions, just one hell of a super rocking punk band along with super positive agressive lyrics that, Im am convinced could move almost anyone out of the hum-drum of everyday life, to get up and do something, if not for themselves for others, the planet, etc, in turn deliver confidence and a sense of positive charged energy to use for what you believe to the best thing for you and whatever is around you, and I have enjoyed rocking to them as well!! They strike something in me for sure!!!

6.11.2008

Meeting 2/3 of Green Day

It's kinda crazy how 'everything happens for a reason'. All my flights ended up being early on Monday as a flew back home to Cali. I caught one flight in particular that was 4 hrs earlier than the one I was suppossed to take. That never happen but, it did that day. So, I was in San Francisco at the Red Carpet room visiting with my mother in law. She told me to wait for her to come get me before going to my gate just in case anything had changed with the flight. SHe then began getting really busy working. I saw that time was running out and I needed to get to my gate whether or not she was coming with me. SO, I shot out the door as she said "just wait a few more minutes." I left any way. And then I saw these two guys walking right in front of me. I said 'these guys look familiar, where do i know them from....wait a second, i don't know them...It's GREEN DAY!'. So, I kinda freaked out. I took a picture of them from behind.

I wasn't sure what to do. But, if anyone would know what to do I knew it would be super Green Day Fan Alicia. I gave her a call for further instructions on how to approach the Green Day. She said I needed to go talk to them and some how make sure they heard her name. And I was totally going to need concrete picture proof if I am going to tell people I met 2/3 of Green Day.

I walked up to them and said "hey there, would you mind if I get a picture with you? " Mike then said "If you can be discrete and quick about it, and then we just go back to being regular guys." I said "Sure... you ARE regular guys and I understand that you just want to chill." I got some other fan to snap a photo of us. It was rad. I talked with them for a bit about my super fan friend Alicia and her dedication to the green day for many years. Tre Cool touched my sweatshirt with the tapes and headphones on it and said he wanted one.. and then he prcoeeded to touch the star on my neck and said "Nice tat." He then asked if I played any instruments and I said I did play drums. He then touched my hand checking for calouses..which I still have a bit of...I explained to them that I gave my drums to my little bro, hoping to keep him interested in music not other things. Mike said "Tell your bro to keep his mind on the music and off that headache inducing weed shit."
My impression was that Mike was more of the stereotypical 'punk'. And he really didn't want to draw attention to them being there. Tre Cool on the other hand was super happy fun spaz and I really enjoyed his energy. And the fact that he touched my 3 seperate times. It was rad. I thanked them both and moved on to my flight.

i know they are just regular people. but, it was pretty sweet to run into them like that. who else will i run into in the great land of california???

6.09.2008

Martha Wainright

this chicky has a great voice and well she says it so well, i think you girls will appreciate her! bloody motherfucken asshole! right on!!!

this song is just brilliant! the video is very good and depicting of well style and the nite. if you get my drift, we have all been there, short days and oh so very long nites!

tasha met greenday

OK, Im sure Tasha will blog about this, but I think I have to be all giddy and be a little teenage girl and stuff!! TASHA MET GREENDAY!!! Oh yes, in the airport, she dropped my name, got pics, and Tre Cool touched her neck the star!! Im sorta glad I have never met them cuz Im sure I couldn't be cool as when Tasha called me I got way too excited, and then I was all shaky from being so damn excited. Ok I had to blog about my excitement of one of my BFF's got to meet them, and heard my name from her!! SEE Im totally a teenager when it comes to these guys. No Billie tho. I do understand they are people to, so I don't wana hear that, ehm....they are just the coolest people in the world!! That is cool, as close as I have ever been was smooshed up against the gate at a concert, the bruises and the extreme body hurting, and the ripping of my shirt was worth it, but to meet them calmly having a drink, not wanting to be totally recognized, but still taking a moment to chat and take some pics is rad. *LOVE* This was not even my experience, but I can't seem to stop. ok im stopping.

Oingo to the Boingo

I love this band, they seriously are just a little too awesome sometimes. Danny Elfman was and still is one hell of a composer. A love that there are actually quite a few bands that took the 80's openess to weirdness and just ran with it. This is one of those. Its amazing how many oingo boingo songs are all upbeat, but quite dark and strange at the same time. The sarcasm is pretty phenomenal in these videos. I absolutely love how they make fun of their own audience in the first one, its like the emo kids of the 80's. The social commentary in all of their songs is just so on and still pretty valid. So yeah, watch the videos, but mostly listen to the songs, then go listen to more songs, because i am pretty sure this band is a staple in time that cannot be removed.

I know I have blogged of this before, just a couple of songs that stick with me, and I hear randomly when out of sorts. I really don't care if they are "cool" or not. They lyrics are what make an imprint in my head. Slick Shoes, All American Rejects....but come on....who doesn't love slick shoes!! You just have to! They ROCK!! AAR is weird, cuz I ALWAYS freakin hear it, and I could not even be in my car, and I will just hear it, like someone drove by this morning blaring it, it's fuckin hot in my place, so my windows are open, it's what I woke up to!! I believe this will never end, and I will just accept the song as something for me!! Slick Shoes, I have just been humming this song lately, so usually when that happens it is time to listen to it!! =) It's good to recognize these things, no matter what it is, if you feel it to be strange or too ironic, it's happening for a freakin reason!!

This band is just so disturbingly awesome, and I can't seem to stop listening to it. It's like it's weird, but you just have to keep listening, then it gets to you in a good way, but weird way, if you are pickin up what Im throwin down here!! I love violin, and wish I knew how to play. Take a listen and then again. It has grown on me, Im not sure what to call it, maybe just different I guess!! YAY!!

Foxboro Hot Tubs!!!!

Foxboro Hot Tubs, The Network, Greenday!! What an awesome show this would be considering that all of those bands are indeed Green Day!!!! They have been touring as Foxboro Hot tubs on the West Coast.
In 2003 this band came out called The Network, I can't remember how I had heard them, but it's totally rad and has some synth goin on in it. They attempted to trick people and just come out with side profects without giving a word of it, which is funny, they said they were taking some time off from touring, and Green Day's last record probably, they would fade away after this. BUT, to me, how could this be, They just realsed American Idiot, and have had an extensive tour, they have made it big!! They have never had more fans, Then all of a sudden this band with vocals very similar to Billie Joes comes out on the internet....what?? They are so odd The Hot tubs are more rock, but they all definately deliver some coolness!!
They play small venues. So Im thinking how cool it would be if they were to tour Iowa, maybe the House Of Bricks. Although they would probably go to the Val Air Ballroom which is a good place too!!Im sure Funks G would love to take the stage with them, being admirers of Green Day as well =) OH YEAH!!! That would be the best night ever, I could die fulfilled!! I love how random they are, they are just crazy!! They don't really take their success too seriously, they do the whole habitat for humanity thing, and their families too, gets their kids involved, (and they have little mohawks) advocate for a cleaner planet, democratic campaigns, rock against Bush, shit that by just being them, they will have people listen. I think that would be one of the best things about being famous.
This video is obviously not the band, but it's so fucken cute!! Watch it, love them, or don't. Once again, I am rolling in the awesomeness of all that is these guys =)

The National Pool

i like this band and so should you. here is a song.

Mad Happy/Scream Club

So, on Tuesday night, Kelly and I went and saw Mad happy, Scream Club and some DJ's. It was a good time! Mad Happy played at Hairy Mary's years ago, and have not been back since. I was afraid that they didn't like it here, cuz the crowd that night were a bunch of drunken assholes!! The Mews is such a better place for them. Kelly bought a shirt and things. They are so rad, and I love them.
Then Scream CLub....well well...*ehm* talk about some killer beats with super duper funny outfits, and way positive lyrics (sometimes)=)!! A duo that is just spectacular, at times they totally reminded me of Northern State, how passionate they were in their lyrics when they had something to really get out of the songs, to really relay the message with hip-hop. I must say my body hurt almost as bad the next day after I went to see Freezepop and Joy Electric!! My right ear is still muzzled, I was of course right next to the speaker, but I had a good spot, I LOVE DANCING!!!! My hoodie also rocks when dancing, until I get hot =) Nobody cared, everyone let loose and just...busted a move...ARM PIT HAIR!!!

The Gossip

So a couple of years ago i received a cd from a very good friend of mine(kristen, to be exact) it was a while since i receieved music from someone and i got so many of them. well, i put it in to listen and i was hooked. i absolutely love this band and i love beth, she fucken rocks, kicks ass, and eats like a real person, not the skinny bitches who claim to eat and don't put are skinny and i want to just like smack them, no offense to anyone, because i love all people but, there is nothing like seeing a big girl take stage, present with such abundance of character and bring the house down. that' sthe fucken shit, i love her. so i am totally obsessed with listening to them i believe i have pretty much that cd memorized, and i need to possess more of them. so i just wanted to share how much i love this band and look up to them, and wish i could be that. you know, like in the fantasy world if i could sing, and get over spilling out my stuff and well, less nasty girl, but pretty close. oh and i only get pissy at skinny girls because i'm not, but you know, whatever, no hate. just love of me some good pizza and kickass fucken music. rock on sisters!
