3 of my favorites!!!

Well, i am putting down 3 of my favortite songs. only because you are right tasha, it's impossible. so i choose 3 to define memories in my life. all very personal in their own right. ending with my favortie band of all time. which someday i will go to australia and see angie hart, because i heart her and frente! so enjoy!

If I was on a totally fucked up island and I was captured by 'others' and they said 'Tasha, you must declare your two, and only two, most favorite songs in the world OR jump in the volcano!!' I would have to go with these two. But, you know I might just have to jump in the volcano because to just pick two is CRAZY.

MENOMENA

Menomena (pronounced /mɨˈnɒmɨnə/) is an indie rock band from Portland, Oregon, made up of Brent Knopf, Justin Harris, and Danny Seim. All members of the band share singing duties and frequently swap instruments while recording.Menomena began as a side project of Seim's late '90s solo project Lackthereof, a project which still continues.

The band formed in late 2000, when Knopf graduated from Dartmouth College[1] and returned to Portland to collaborate with Harris and Seim [2].

The name "Menomena" was chosen for "the way it rolls off the tongue, sexually, or something" [3] and has no specific meaning, although it is often assumed to refer to the Piero Umiliani song "Mah Nà Mah Nà", a staple of The Muppet Show. A recent audioclip from SpotDJ had Brent sarcastically stating that the band name was a contraction of the words "Men" and "Phenomena".

Menomena played their first show at The Meow Meow, a now-defunct all ages venue in Portland, in July 2001. The trio opened their debut performance with a cover version of "The Abandoned Hospital Ship" by The Flaming Lips [4].

Shortly after joining the roster of High Road Touring, a San Francisco-based booking agency[5], Menomena drove a 1977 Dodge Sportsman RV on their first U.S. tour in 2004[6]. The aging vehicle suffered many breakdowns along the way. Knopf detailed these issues in an interview with Spin (magazine), "Systems that failed (and had to be replaced) during the tour included the following: tires, muffler, brake master cylinder, exhaust manifold, windshield wipers, horn, side-view mirrors (both fell off). Oh, and did I mention that there were two fires? Not one. Two. This vehicle promptly earned the moniker 'RV Danger.'"[7]. RV Danger (most likely a reference to Seattle band Harvey Danger) was later immortalized in a tour poster illustrated by Tyler Stout, who has collaborated with the band on numerous occasions[8]. Other notable tours in Menomena's early career were with Gang Of Four [9], The National [10], and The Long Winters[11].

After several releases and national tours, Menomena signed with Barsuk Records in August 2006. The band still maintains a relationship with their original label, FILMguerrero. It was stated that FILMguerrero will continue be involved in their back catalog and possibly with future vinyl releases[12].

Menomena signed a contract with Germany-based record label City Slang, to release their album Friend and Foe across Europe on August 31, 2007. The band toured Europe twice that year, and their adventures were extensively chronicled by Seim in a Blog for a Portland-based website called Local Cut.(taken from wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menomena)

They are currently not touring :( These guys are flipping amazing!!! so listen to and watch this video...then wrap them up and love them as I have!

Death Cab for Cutie

This song I listened to alot when I was going through my whole "phase of breaking up".....the lyrics dont exactly fit my situation or anything, but ya know. I have been a little obsessed with this band lately as well, its that voice, and the way the beats change slightly, but you can just tell....it gets me!=)

Also....Chris Walla from DCFC will be on NPR Friday doing some shit from his solo album, so if you are near a radio flip on your affiliate and check it out! He has a wonderful voice, and he also helped with Tegan and Sara's THE CON as well, just some info, i guess....ok...enjoy!!

greenday is monday kelly's bday!!!=)

As far as I know I granted everyone administration privleges. Tell me if I did not. You can all mess with the blog and stuff, and make it totally rockin yo!! Cuz that's what we do and we do it so well.....ok.......blah....oh Im just going to re-live something here..
This morning I rocked it to Greenday's warning and nimrod...shooting for insomniac tonight maybe. Anyways, it rox...I know greenday hasn't always recorded very awesome music all of the time. BUT, I do recall when warning, and shanagins was recorded, the band was on the brink of a break up, and they were not getting along, I have to say I was not terribly dissapointed, but wondered what the fuck was up, it's all still totally catchy. Then they over came it, and out spilled American Idiot.....best one for me. But I'll never forget 1039 smoothed out slappy hours, kerplunk, and dookie, the one that made them, and the band sweet children, oh, and billie joe's little side dread with his curly bleached or blue hair....so awesome...*sigh*
I would see them again, and pay extra...theres something about when you see your favortie band, and they are like RIGHT THERE...it's a moment, and I remember exactly how I felt....ok. I'll stop now...

The Jicks

So i get this really cool music mag, Blender. it always has awesome info and new cool bands for me to check out, because i am lazy and don't really like having to search for things, i have better things to do, besides that's what it's for then i can choose whether i like it or not, so there. anyways, i read this article about the lead singer form pavemnt(stephen malkmus) with Sleater-kinney's drummer, Janet weiss, which is cool because they are both here in the northwest( portland), but close enuff. Anyways, i checked out some of the songs, and totally awesome, forgot how much i really liked pavement. well, anyways, if someone can figure out how to get their music on here, The jicks, that's the name. yea new music for your listening ears!

Public radio, your new and old music source

I listen to NPR, national public radio quite often, and i have found that it is just about the best station, at least around here, to find and listen to new music and as well as old music you never even knew about. They have an awesome nightly music program where they play a lot of independent artists, and there is the "world cafe" where they usually have a guest artist play and put on a lot of music from america and abroad that you just will never hear on your corporate stations. There is also a program I love, Blues before sunrise (http://www.bluesbeforesunrise.com), which is on Saturday nights here from midnight until about 4 or 5 a.m., and they play some just awesome very old 20's 30's blues music. Usually they will have a theme of some kind to every show. here its 101.7fm, but i am sure you can go to www.npr.org to find your local station. In addition to the awesome music they play, its in my opinion one of the best places to get your news as well. Check it out!

Across The Universe

"Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me"

It's been quite sometime since I have listened to the melodic tunes of The Beatles. Tonight, I realized just how long as I watched the movie 'Across the Universe'.
This movie was beautiful, amazing, and completely mind blowing. It made me melt comfortably into my furniture as I sat back and followed it through its journey. The movie is completely compiled of all Beatles songs....sung by many of the cast and directed beautifully by Julie Taymor and written by Dick Clement and Ian la Frenais.

I absolutely recommend that you go out, rent it or BUY IT, sit in for the night...tune in, turn on, and drop out to the sounds of The Beatles and visuals of this amazing movie!

The Residents are insane, and i love them.

I will give a cookie to anyone that actually watches this whole video.
